Goldberg explored American Monument using the traditional Hip-hop DJ technique of needle dropping, and Ralph Ellison’s multi-turntable theory of Black presence and mediation. His aim was to conjure a collective Black avatar/spirit from the emerging and intersecting patterns of rage, testimony, and trauma.
